Don’t be so cocksure.

Twin-tree

Here’s another tiny excerpt from my upcoming book on creativity.

The reality, as a whole, is far too complex than many of us like to think. It can’t be divided into black and white, good or evil, true or false. Thinking in such a way is cowardly and spineless. It’s a bad habit since you hide behind the opinions of others as you don’t dare to form your own.

Therefore don’t be so ruddy cocksure about everything. Try instead to cultivate a diverse outlook in life. Remember that something that is seen to be noble in one context can just as well be sheer evil against another backdrop.

Learn to have a critical eye for everything you take for granted. Learn respect and tolerance. Tolerance towards the possibility that others might be right and you are wrong.
